WordPress vs ChairsideWeb
WordPress vs ChairsideWeb: maximum control, or a site you never have to maintain
Which is right for a dental group?
WordPress is free, open-source software that runs a large share of the web, and it gives a dental group full control over its site and code, provided someone chooses the hosting, theme and plugins and keeps them all updated. ChairsideWeb gives up that do-it-yourself control in exchange for a site that is designed, hosted, updated and written for you on one monthly fee. If you have a developer you trust and want to own the code outright, WordPress is a strong choice. If you want nobody at the group to think about updates, hosting or plugins again, a managed site is the better fit.
The real question
The cost of WordPress is mostly upkeep, not software
The software itself costs nothing. The work is in everything around it: a host, a theme, plugins for SEO, forms, caching and security, and someone to update all of them without breaking the office pages. Multi-location dental groups often end up with a site that was fast at launch and slow two years later, because each new plugin added weight. ChairsideWeb sites have no plugin layer at all, so the speed we guarantee at launch is the speed you keep.
Side by side
WordPress and ChairsideWeb, line by line
Twelve things a dental group should weigh. Their column describes the option in general terms from public information; ours states our published terms.
| What to weigh | WordPress | ChairsideWeb |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and Core Web Vitals | Can be very fast when well built and hosted; often slows as themes, page builders and plugins are added. | 90+ PageSpeed guaranteed on mobile and desktop. Static pages served from Cloudflare's edge with almost no JavaScript. |
| SEO control, office by office | Full control, usually through SEO plugins and careful page setup. | A page per office, provider and service, each with its own title, headings and internal links, set by us. |
| Schema and JSON-LD | Through plugins or custom code; per-office entries need setup. | Organization, a dental business entry per office, Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList, generated from the same data as the page. |
| AEO and GEO readiness | Fully possible; depends on how content is written and structured. | Answer-first copy, visible FAQs, consistent office facts and an llms.txt file on every site. |
| Hosting and security | You choose a host. Security, backups and updates depend on that host and your setup. | Cloudflare hosting with SSL, CDN, DDoS protection, backups and monitoring inside the fee. |
| Maintenance burden on your team | Core, theme and plugin updates need regular attention and testing. | None. Weekly detail updates and 5 revisions a month are applied by us. Nobody logs in. |
| Who does the work | You, your staff, or a developer or agency you hire. | Our team designs, writes, builds, hosts and runs it. You approve. |
| Content and blog | Excellent publishing tools. Someone still has to write. | 2 researched articles a week (3 on Group), 2,500 to 3,200 words each, with cited sources. |
| Design quality | Thousands of themes, or fully custom design by a developer. | A custom design system on your brand, designed phone-first and hand-coded. |
| Accessibility and compliance pages | Plugins and templates exist; you assemble and maintain them. | Privacy policy, terms, cookie consent that gates scripts, an accessibility statement and forms that do not collect health information. |
| Cost model | Free software. You pay for hosting, premium themes or plugins if used, and people. | One fee per group from $137 a month, plus a $797 build fee invoiced after launch. AI usage at cost on Operatory Suite. |
| Lock-in and ownership | You own the software installation, code and content outright. Highly portable. | Month to month. Your domain and your content are yours, with a content export within 14 days of cancelling. The design and code stay ours. |
Honest fit
When each one is the better choice
WordPress is the better fit when
- You have an in-house developer or a trusted agency on retainer.
- Owning and modifying the underlying code is a firm requirement.
- You need a feature that only a specific WordPress plugin provides.
- You want to host the site on your own infrastructure.
ChairsideWeb is the better fit when
- Nobody at the group should be updating plugins or testing office pages after updates.
- You want a guaranteed speed score that does not erode as the site grows.
- You want weekly accuracy across offices and articles written for you.
- You prefer one monthly fee to managing a host, a developer and a writer separately.

Questions
WordPress vs ChairsideWeb: questions
Is WordPress bad for a dental group website?
No. WordPress is capable and flexible. The question is who maintains it. With a good developer it can be excellent; without one, plugins, updates and speed tend to slip.
Why does ChairsideWeb not use WordPress?
We hand-code static pages with no plugin layer so we can guarantee 90+ PageSpeed and keep every office page consistent. That trade-off suits a fully managed service.
Do we own the site like we would with WordPress?
You own your domain and your content, and receive a content export within 14 days of cancelling. Unlike a WordPress install, the design and code stay ours, as the terms set out. If owning the code matters most, WordPress is the better fit.
Can you move our WordPress blog posts?
Yes. Posts, provider bios and photos are carried across, and old post addresses are redirected to their new ones.
Will we lose rankings moving off WordPress?
A move done with redirects and per-office pages is designed to preserve what already ranks. We cannot promise positions; we do guarantee the site starts ranking for local searches within 3 to 5 months, or we keep working at no charge.
Is WordPress cheaper?
The software is free. Hosting, premium themes or plugins, developer time and writing are not, and they are billed separately. ChairsideWeb puts all of that in one monthly fee per group.
Can our team still edit pages?
Nobody needs to. Changes are emailed or raised in your client portal, and weekly detail updates plus monthly revisions are applied by us.
Is ChairsideWeb affiliated with WordPress?
No. WordPress is a trademark of its owner and ChairsideWeb is not affiliated with it.
