Hiring a freelancer vs ChairsideWeb

A freelance web designer vs ChairsideWeb: one talented person, or a team on a monthly plan

Which is right for a dental group?

A good freelance web designer can build a dental practice a genuinely excellent site, often with a personal touch and flexible scope. The trade-off is continuity: once the project ends, updates, articles, hosting and fixes depend on one person's availability. ChairsideWeb is a team on a monthly plan: the build, the hosting, the weekly updates, the articles and the support continue whether or not any one person is on holiday. If you want a one-off build and have someone to maintain it, a freelancer can be the right call. If you want the site run for you, choose a managed plan.

The real question

The build is one project. The website is every week after it.

Most freelance engagements are priced as a project, which is fair for the build. A dental group's site, though, needs work every week: hours, providers, insurance, closures, new services, articles. When that work is a new quote each time, it tends not to happen. ChairsideWeb prices the site as a service, so the weekly work is already paid for and simply gets done.

Honest fit

When each one is the better choice

Hiring a freelancer is the better fit when

  • You want a one-off build and have in-house staff to maintain it.
  • You already know a freelancer whose dental work you trust.
  • You want full handover of the code and files at the end.

ChairsideWeb is the better fit when

  • You want continuity: no single person the site depends on.
  • You want weekly updates and monthly revisions included, not quoted.
  • You want hosting, articles and support on one monthly fee.
  • You want the $797 build fee charged only after you approve the live site.

Switching or combining

Switching from a freelancer

If your freelancer is moving on, ask them for access to the domain and the current content. We take it from there: map the pages, rebuild the site in the new structure and redirect old addresses.

If you still work with them happily on other projects, nothing stops that. We just take over the website and its upkeep.

What's in each plan

Beyond the website: what the larger plans add

Every plan includes the full site. Operatory Suite adds the AI Engine and Group adds the Content Engine. Here is what each feature does and what you have to do.

  • Chairside $137/ month
  • Operatory Suite $297/ month + usage
  • Group $747/ month

From a group that switched

What a group like yours says

  • We expected a prettier website; what we actually use every day is the new form. It collects preferred office, visit reason and callback number up front, so the back-and-forth we used to do by reply has largely gone. Most mornings I can prepare for the callback from the first message alone.

Questions

Hiring a freelancer vs ChairsideWeb: questions

Is a freelancer cheaper than ChairsideWeb?

Sometimes for the initial build. Over time, updates, hosting, writing and fixes are usually billed separately. ChairsideWeb includes them in one fee per group.

What happens if our freelancer disappears?

It is the most common reason groups call us. We need access to the domain and ideally the content; we rebuild from there and redirect old URLs.

Will ChairsideWeb be as personal as a freelancer?

You work with named people through the client portal and by email, and a person replies within one working day. You get a team rather than one person's calendar.

Do we get the code like with a freelancer?

No. Your domain and content are yours, with a content export within 14 days of cancelling, but the design and code stay ours. If full code handover matters most, a freelancer may suit you better.

Can a freelancer build multi-location dental sites?

Many can. Ask how they will handle a page per office, per-office routing, structured data and weekly updates after launch.

How is quality controlled at ChairsideWeb?

Every page is designed, written and checked by our team, held to 90+ PageSpeed, and approved by you before launch. The build fee is invoiced only after you are happy.

How quickly can you take over?

The new site is live in 7 days on Chairside from the onboarding call.

Do we sign a long contract?

No. Plans run month to month. Cancel by email with at least 2 business days' notice before the next invoice date.

This page compares a category of provider, not a named company, so it describes typical arrangements in general terms. Every provider is different; ask yours for its terms.
